Mr. Hartswick was reared by thespians and has directed many theatre workshops and plays for children. He was commissioned to write several pieces for children's theatre, and his unique combination of experience in performance, direction, education and marketing led to the plays being published and selling (in some cases, in record numbers) through Pioneer Drama and Heuer Publishing.

Death by Dessert (pdf)

(Two act) -- A zany group of characters involved in a feud between two Italian restaurants are suspects in the murder of a woman caught in the middle. Audience participation/dinner theatre/murder mystery. (Published Fall 2005 by Heuer Publishing.)


Cafe Murder (pdf)

(One act) -- A despised woman with a water allergy celebrates her birthday with a rugged truck driver, a sassy waitress, a proper Maitre'D, a peace-loving hippie, an uptight businesswoman, a passionate French chef, a ditzy teenager, and an underqualified private investigator. All My Life (pdf)

(Full-length) -- This musical comedy tells the story of two bumbling robbers, a shy director, a loudmouth chorus girl, an insecure millionaire, a smothering mother, a country singer/plumber and an Italian opera singer as each attempts to fulfill a lifelong dream.


The Ever After (pdf)

(One act) -- A daytime talk show attempts to reconcile enemies from popular fairy tales 20 years after the original conflicts. (Published Fall 2005 by Pioneer Drama.)


Don't Jump (pdf)

(One act) -- A talent scout is faced with an unusual dilemma. To solve it, he must enlist the help of a daredevil, a Broadway diva, and a shadow puppeteer.
